I was born July 8, 1943 in New Jersey,
just two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.
Despite growing up during Hot and Cold Wars,
I seem to have had a reasonably
"normal" suburban childhood.
Unfortunately, our public school focused only on the 3Rs,
and I had to wait until I entered Rutgers University
to be offered an art class.
But by then, thanks to encouragement from my family,
I'd had many years to develop my
"inner artist."
Why Miniatures?
Until I was eight, no one knew
that I was terribly near-sighted.
My world was one of books,
science projects, crafts, and models.
At university I studied Art History
but seldom attempted to create it.
It was not until 1967 that I made
my first serious black ink drawings.
Soon, with the help of a Sharpie,
I began a "psychedelic" style,
that I later refined with a Rapidograph Pen
and Staedler Colored Felt Tip Pens.
In 1992 I started painting
credit card size landscapes in color, and
continued with this size until Bali
where I found a framer who
could, and would, cut 3 x 4cm
openings in a double mat.
Only upon returning to the USA was it suggested that
the Bali size was perhaps a little too small.
In 2013 I returned to "larger" miniatures:
2 1/4" x 3 1/4" (5.7 x 8.3cm).
